A wild and woolly variation on the traditional Bomber, the Dirty Bomber was first tied by Newfoundlander Paul White. It’s a pattern that obviously works for Atlantic salmon and big brook trout, but you can also fish it for Alaskan rainbows, largemouth bass, and any other predatory species that loves a big, easy meal.
In this great video from The New Fly Fisher and Tightline Productions, Tim Flagler walks you through the steps to create the pattern. You don’t have to worry too much about precision because the pattern is meant to look crazy. Hook: Bomber hook, size 6.
Thread 1: White gel-spun thread.
Adhesive #1: Superglue.
Tail: White calf tail.
Adhesive #2: Superglue.
Rear Body: Green deer belly hair.
Front Body: White or gray deer belly hair.
Thread 2: Black gel-spun thread.
Wing: White calf tail.
Hackle: Orange saddle hackle.
Adhesive: Head cement.
