The goal of a balanced streamer pattern is to present the fly in a more-natural way, like a real leech or baitfish, and many anglers will fish these flies under an indicator. To balance the fly, you’ll need a special hook and a way to add weight beyond the hook eye. This balanced version of a Pine Squirrel Streamer looks very fishy.

In this latest how-to video from Tightline Productions, Tim Flagler shows you how to make an extended eyes-holder using a small zip tie (or “wire tie). It’s an ingenious method that’s also super easy. Then, all you have to do is tie on the pine squirrel strip, and you’re good to go. Of course, Tim has tips for making that easier, as well.
