Each video demonstrates a single tying skill, from the most basic to the advanced. Ultimately, the series will serve as a sort of encyclopedia of tying skills that will be a valuable resource for anyone who sits down at a vise to create a fly.
In this week’s lesson, Tim shows you how to create realistic, tapered bodies on baitfish patterns that use synthetic materials. Most baitfish are naturally tapered front to back, so a fly that ends in a straight line of fibers won’t offer a realistic silhouette in the water. As usual, Tim’s solution is both simple and effective–one of those “wow” moments that often happen when you see a master at work.
