Here’s another “One-Minute Fly-Tying Tips and Techniques” video from Tim Flagler of Tightline Productions. Each video teaches a single tying skill, from the most basic to the advanced. Ultimately, the series will serve as a sort of encyclopedia of tying skills that will be a valuable resource for anyone who sits down at a vise to create a fly.

One thing that new fly tiers often struggle with is keeping materials in place during the tie-in process. Because you are wrapping thread around fine fibers or hairs, they often want to roll around the hook shank, which makes for a messy-looking pattern. The pinch wrap allows you to keep the material on top of the hook shank, where it belongs, while securing it.
