Here’s another great installment of our video series called “One-Minute Fly-Tying Tips and Techniques” from Tim Flagler of Tightline Productions. Each video will teach a single tying skill, from the most basic to the advanced. Ultimately, the series will serve as a sort of encyclopedia of tying skills that will be a valuable resource for anyone who sits down at a vise to create a fly.

Have you ever gone to trim some fibers on a fly you’re tying and accidentally trimmed something else? Or perhaps you ended up trimming more than you intended to, ruining the pattern’s proportions. Doing the kind of fine-touch trimming required to make beautiful, well-proportioned flies requires a certain amount of precision. In this week’s One-Minute Tying Tip, Tim shows you how to use your other hand and a couple other implements to make your trimming hand steadier and more accurate. These tricks are simple, but they can make a huge difference in how your flies turn out.
