Back in November, The Fly Fishing Show announced that it was cancelling or rescheduling dates at most of its 2021 destinations due to complications arising from the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, including cancellations of dates in Edison, NJ and Marlborough, MA, two of the shows’ most popular destinations. Unfortunately for show goers, today The Fly Fishing Show announced cancellations for two more popular show destinations.

Joining the list of cancelled destinations are Pleasanton, CA and Lancaster, PA. The Atlanta, GA show was also cancelled prior to this most recent announcement. This leaves the rescheduled Denver, CO show—currently slated for April 30-May 2—as the only 2021 Fly Fishing Show destination still scheduled to take place this year.

Unsurprisingly, COVID-19-related impacts continue to be the cause of show cancellations.

According to a press release from The Fly Fishing Show, “Alameda County Fairgrounds – site of the Pleasanton Fly Fishing Show – has been designated a COVID-19 vaccine distribution center … In addition to becoming a vaccine distribution center, emergency medical services will take over all of the Alameda County Fairgrounds’ primary buildings and the main paved parking lot with an end date of July 4, it was announced.” These emergency designations, the release noted, “end[ed] any hope for 2021.”

Pandemic-related limits on attendance at the Lancaster County Convention Center, which limited occupancy to 463 attendees at any given time and which The Fly Fishing Show described as “restrictive,” led to the cancellation of the Lancaster, PA dates.

Fly Fishing Show president and CEO Ben Furimsky lamented the latest cancellations, noting that the show “had no choice but to cancel for 2021 and look toward 2022,” at the cancelled destinations. Furimsky also confirmed that the Denver show dates remain on track for late April and early May.
