The CADDIS Fly Fishing Club, Russellville Recreation and Parks Department and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC) are again partnering to bring season trout fishing to Russellville.
The AGFC will stock the pond at Pleasant View Park 1,000 rainbow trout. Trout Day is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 3. This will be an opportunity for people of all ages to catch trout without having to travel to the traditional trout rivers to the North.
The AGFC Family and Community Fishing Program has brought urban trout fishing to more than 20 communities around the state, and it has been tremendously successful. Hundreds of catchable trout will be stocked. The Recreation and Parks Department staff encourages novice and experienced anglers to take the opportunity to catch this cold water species.
“We hope people take this opportunity to take time to enjoy the outdoors fishing with and teaching their children about fishing,” said Jerry Falleur of the CADDIS Fly Fishing Club. Bait fishing, fly fishing and fishing with artificial lures are allowed, and bait will be provided.
Trout fishing instructions will be available the morning of the event on the hour.
The Family and Community Fishing Program is an effort by the AGFC to provide families and children the opportunity to catch trout and enjoy a fun and exciting day of fishing. Participants are asked to bring their own fishing gear. A fishing license and trout permit (stamp) are required for persons 16 years of age or older, and all trout regulations will be enforced. The limit of five rainbow trout will apply to this event.
Members of the CADDIS Fly Fishing Club will be on hand to help people who would lke to try fly casting and are invited to bring their fly rod if they have one. Club members will also help with tackle issues as needed.
“The CADDIS club is glad to be able to be a co-sponsor and hopes people from the area have an enjoyable Trout Day with friends, family and the community,” Falleur added.
