Thomas E. “Tom” Moore, of West Alexander, formerly of Eighty Four and Marianna, passed away Friday, September 17, 2021, at the age of 78.

Tom was born October 19, 1942, in Johnstown, to Viard “Barney” and Delphine Sidola Moore.

After graduating from Bethlehem-Center Senior High School in 1960, he attended Penn State, pursuing a degree in electrical engineering. He was a disc jockey for radio station WCNG in Canonsburg, and hosted a popular morning radio show. Shortly thereafter, he was drafted into the United States Army.

After basic training at Fort Jackson, SC, he trained with the 588th Engineers at Fort Lee, Va., before being deployed to Vietnam from 1964-1966.

Upon returning stateside, Tom was employed with Univac Computers in Utica, N.Y. He owned a TV repair shop in Marianna as a young man, and later Tom’s Gun Shop in Eighty Four after the birth of his children. He also co-owned a towing and truck repair company in the 1980s.

He worked as a master electrician for Consol Energy for more than 30 years until his retirement in 2003.

Tom was actively involved with American Legion Post 656 West Alexander, where he was serving as commander and judge advocate. He was also involved with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4442 Elm Grove Memorial. Tom was a member of The Forty & Eight Fraternal and Charitable Honor Society of American Veterans (La Societe des Quarante Hommes et Huit Chevaux), and was actively involved with Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing.

He was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, fly fishing, trap shooting, cycling, and riding dirt bikes with his grandson.

Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Marie Hale Moore; father Viard; mother Delphine; and brother Rich.

He is survived by his daughter, Janet (Chuck) Kitts of Wexford; and son Tim Moore of West Alexander; grandson Spence Kitts of Wexford; sister Linda Moore of Waynesburg; treasured companion Vicki Gill of Spraggs; several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, September 22, with a funeral service at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 23, in Young Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 219 Main Street, Claysville, PA 15323, (724) 663-7373, www.youngfhinc.com. Interment to follow at West Alexander Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial contributions to his favorite charities: WVU Medicine Children’s Hospital, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, Inc.
