A brilliant video of a drone catching fish from a pool in locked-down Shanghai is doing rounds on the internet and you have to hand it to people for improvising everything sitting in their balconies.

A harsh Covid lockdown has effectively turned the capital city of China into a ghost town. Robot dogs have been in the news for patrolling the deserted streets as residents wait out an unceasing Omicron outbreak.

Several videos have emerged over the past month documenting the dystopian state of Shanghai. Recently, a drone-shot video went viral after the multi-rotor aircraft doubled as fishing gear for a starved resident in a high-rise building.

The drone’s reflection is clearly visible on the pool’s surface as it descends to lower a bait attached to it with a string.

Viral video: Man lowers dog from 3rd floor window with leash, “walks” it in locked-down Shanghai

An inquisitive ornamental fish follows it across the pool and, lo and behold, it’s hooked.

The video was shared to Twitter by Rodrigo Zeidan, an Associate Professor at the New York University Shanghai.

“Grocery shopping in Shanghai, 2022 edition,” read the caption.

“Not my drone, not my fish (unfortunately),” Zeidan wrote in a further tweet.

Besides racking up 2.5 lakh views, the now-viral video has sparked some hilarious reactions on the internet.

The alternative fly-fishing clip is not the only such improvisational video to come out of Shanghai. Previously, a man went viral after he ‘walked’ his dog from his third-floor window using an elongated string.

However, his handling of the pet canine didn’t go down well as the internet unanimously disapproved of the technique.
