Spend the weekend in Norfolk, Aug. 5-7

NORFOLK — The seventh annual Weekend in Norfolk is coming up Aug. 5-7, with activities, tours and events.

The schedule: Aug. 5

Stop by the library, the Norfolk Hub, and the Guilded Artisan to view the art shows. Tours of the stained glass windows created by Franz Mayer of Munich at the Immaculate Conception Church are offered from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the windows at the Battell Chapel created by D. Maitland Armstrong and Louis Comfort Tiffany from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Couples can get married or renew their vows on the Village Green; bouquets are supplied and a justice of the peace, ring bearers, and witnesses are on hand, according to event organizers.


An opening reception at the Art Barn Gallery on the Battell Stoeckel Estate will be held from 5-7:30 p.m. while children are invited to a hula hoop event on the Village Green from 6-8 p.m. A free concert at Station Place by the Grantville Dawgs will be performed from 5-7 p.m. The evening concludes with a ticketed concert at the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival Shed.

Aug. 6

Events begin at 10 a.m. with the Farmers Market at 19 Maple Ave., featuring produce, cooking demos and an array of arts and crafts. Children’s events that day will include a scavenger hunt, corn hole toss, candy jar guess, face painting, giant bubbles, free hot dogs and sodas for kids, plus prizes.

For outdoor sports enthusiasts in your family, fly fishing lessons begin 9 a.m. and 12 noon with expert fisherman Doug McDevitt, who will demonstrate the art of casting and share many insider tips and tricks.

A town-wide tag sale runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; maps will be available online and at WIN’s information center, 2 Station Place.

The event will also include the grand opening of the Connecticut – Asia Cultural Center, with three floors, each dedicated to one Eastern religious culture including Taoist, Confucian, and Buddhist cultures.

The annual fire hose water soccer game starts at noon at the Town Playing Field on Mountain Road.

The day is rounded out by free three-card tarot readings by the Healing Nest will be available from 2-4 p.m.

A tour of stained glass windows at Immaculate Conception, Battell Chapel, and the Church of Transfiguration begins at the Battell Chapel at 12:30 p.m.

There is also a special guided walk of the historic Main Street with the Director of the Norfolk Historical Society Museum at 2 p.m. Afterwards, guests can visit the museum to see the exhibit “Main Street: A Look Back 100 Years.”

Saturday at 6:30 p.m., a Family Fun Day and Movie event, for a charge of $10 per family, will be held at the Botelle School, showing Disney’s Encanto. Activities for kids include face painting, a bounce house, candy, drinks, snacks, and games.

For classical music lovers, there is a ticketed concert at the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival Shed from 8- 9 p.m.

Aug. 7

Sunday begins with the Church of Christ Congregational outdoor worship service on the Green from 9 -11 a.m. The art galleries in town will be open all day and stained glass window tours will be offered at noon to 3 p.m. A fly fishing lesson will be held at Wood Creek Pond from 9-11 a.m.

An afternoon highlight for kids is “Magic Moments” with Master Magician Brian Lazotte at the Berkshire County Store.

Tarot card readings from 2-4 p.m., and a guided walk of Main Street with the Norfolk Historical Society at 2 p.m. are also scheduled.
