Shirley “Judy” Lewis
June 24, 1927 – October 5, 2021
Boise, Idaho – Judy was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado on June 24, 1927, to B. Frank Judy and Amelia Pinnicker Judy. She attended school in Colorado Springs, graduating High School in 1945. She attended Colorado College and was affiliated with Gamma Phi Sorority.
Judy met her husband, Jack W. Lewis, during WWII when she was in High School, and he was in the U.S. Air Force. They waited until the end of the war before being married on August 25, 1946, in the Beautiful Grace Episcopal Church in Colorado Springs. They moved to Boise, Idaho, and always felt their life together was a gift, from God, of love and respect and happiness. This came to an end one month short of their 50th wedding anniversary when Jack passed away. Judy then met and married Wid J. Prater and they were married on March 22, 1998, in Trinity Presbyterian Church in Boise, Idaho. They lived in Boise but spent much of their time in their special little cabin on the Oregon Coast. They loved to travel to the UK – Scotland, Wales, and Ireland.
Judy was a member or an active member of the following: A group named “Life Lines” in 1947, Beta Sigma Phi, where she held many of the offices in the chapter and also the city council as well as awarded the “Girl of the Year”, St. Luke’s Auxiliary, Columbian Club, Girl Scouts Organization for many years, Madison School P.T.A. when it was so much fun to be part of “Stunt Nights”, Junior Achievement Advisor Teams for Boise Cascade Corp., Mountain States Tumor Institute where she volunteered as Patient and Family Support System and was Vice President of the Auxiliary, American Cancer Society as the President of the Reach To Recovery Rehabilitation For Mastectomy Patients, charter member of the Morrison Center Auxiliary.
She worked for Boise Cascade Corp. For several years in the Reconciliation Department and the Personnel Area.
In her church, at that time All Saints Episcopal Church, Boise, she was a Sunday School Teacher, Choir Member, Coordinator and Teacher for many summer bible schools, assisted with the many dinners, bazaars and dances that were held by her church. Later, in the Trinity Presbyterian Church, Boise, she sang in the choir and was on many committees.
She loved her family! First and foremost! She also loved fly fishing and tied all the enticing fishing flies that she and Jack used on the beautiful streams in Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Colorado, and Canada. She loved to knit, crochet, cross stitch, and needle point. She collected miniatures and had a completely furnished miniature home when she was a girl. Travel was fun also, especially when her family was young, and they had a travel trailer which found them camping in it all over the western part of the country and Canada. Jack and Judy enjoyed many cruises with long time friends after they retired. Judy and her second husband, Wid, had a wonderful trip to England, Scotland, North and South Wales and Ireland. Wid died in 2001.
She is preceded in death by her first husband, Jack; her parents, B. Franklin Judy and Amelia Judy; her sister, Gladell Judy Farr; and her second husband, Wid. She is survived by Kathi Vargas, Cindie Lewis-Kithcart, Jeff Long (Kelly), Andy Long (Bethany), Chelsey Vargas, Katy Kithcart (David Mortin), numerous nieces and nephews, 5 great-grandchildren and beloved dogs, Jiminy and Cricket.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at Cloverdale Cemetery.
