SUMMIT, NJ — The private Oak Knoll School in Summit announced Monday that Jennifer G. Landis will assume the role of Head of School effective July 1. She becomes the sixth official Head in the school’s 97-year history.
Landis, Oak Knoll’s Associate Head of School, succeeds Timothy J. Saburn, who previously announced his retirement after 16 years as Head of School.
“It is an honor to be assuming the position as Oak Knoll School’s Head of School and I am grateful to have been mentored by Tim for the past seven years,” said Landis. “Tim has made a tremendous impact on me professionally and personally and has made so many significant contributions to Oak Knoll.”
She added, “It was clear as soon as I joined this community that Oak Knoll is a special place. The faculty, staff, administration, and all of our students are grounded in faith, wisdom, and service to others, and I look forward to working with the school community and families in the years ahead.”
Landis served as Oak Knoll’s Upper School Division Head for six years after joining the community in 2014. She has more than 20 years of experience in education.
“During her time at Oak Knoll, Jen has proven herself to be a rare and special talent,” said Jeffrey W. Schroeder, Chair of Oak Knoll’s Board of Trustees. “An innovative educator of high integrity, Jen has driven significant change at Oak Knoll through her superb intellect, energy, and people skills. She is the right leader at the right time for Oak Knoll.”
Prior to Oak Knoll, Landis was the Upper School Dean of Academics, Religion Department Chair, Assistant to the Upper School Head and Class Dean, Dean of Students, and Director of Student Life all at Stuart Country Day School of the Sacred Heart in Princeton.
She first began teaching in the 1994-1995 school year as an eighth-grade history teacher. She has taught several courses including humanities, U.S. history, morality, ethics, world religions, English, social justice, and psychology.
Landis has also served on the Board of Trustees at Stuart Country Day; was selected to, and completed the Aspiring Heads Fellowship through the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS); and has presented at several regional and national educational conferences including the National Coalition of Girls Schools, National Association of Independent Schools and New Jersey Association of Independent Schools.
She holds her Master’s in Education from La Salle University and Bachelor’s in Religion from Colgate University. In her free time, Landis enjoys cooking, has run five marathons, and enjoys fly fishing and trips to the Adirondack Mountains with her family.
