The difference between hunting and fishing is that hunters seek their prey while fishermen try to become prey; they do their best to make their lures look attractive and vulnerable so that fish will attack them. –  WD Withered

MENDOCINO COAST FISHING – I have received several pretty good salmon fishing reports. It looks like the ocean has calmed down some with the conditions being graded at a “light chop.” The really good news is the there are tuna being caught. With water temperatures running near 60 degrees close by, the tuna are in and are within most boaters reach. So, the added bonus is, there are now less boats salmon fishing.=Better odds  of hooking into a trophy salmon!  Salmon, It’s what’s for dinner. Yum!

BLUE LAKES – The bass fishing on the upper Blue Lake has continued to be pretty fair.  Some anglers have been doing well throwing top water lures like a PopR or buzz-bait.  The best bite is during the early morning hours and the last hour of daylight.  Even though Fish and Wildlife hasn’t stocked the Upper Blue Lake since Spring, there are still a few trout being caught trolling with a Ford Fender, or Action Disk, trailing it with a fly or a pink plastic worm.  Anglers fishing for trout from the shore have not had much success.

CLEAR LAKE – The lake has continued to get in better and better shape.  Pretty much, the algae muck and dead fish are gone. Look for weed mats along the shore and out in the middle of lake.  Note – Don’t overlook these areas.  Some bass fishermen have been doing pretty good fishing a weedless top water lure over the weeds.  The strikes have been occurring when the lure breaks into a clearing or the outer edge of the mat.  Moving out into deeper water (15 to 25 feet).Try throwin’ a swimbait or dropshotin’ . Both techniques have been producing some strikes.  Good numbers of bass are being caught.  You might have to go through several one pounders to get to a three to five pound fish.  Lots of fun!  Keeps you on your toes.

Also, have received reports of catfish being caught off the docks in the Indian Beach areas.  Cast it out as far as you can. Chicken livers and crawdads with a bobber have been working best.

Clear Lake’s water level is very low!  Remember that if you get out on the water that there are many hazards just below the water surface. Be very careful.

LAKE SONOMA – Reports are coming out of Lake Sonoma stating that the bass fishing is much improved.  Still, the north end of the lake is producing most of the bass.  Yorty Creek, Cherry Creek, and the deeper water of Skunk Creek have all been very popular areas.  Successful anglers have been doing best with a reaction bite.  Fast retrieving a KDV Square-build crank bait through and around submersed trees.  Keep it movin’, make long casts and cover a lot of water. Also I have received good reports of some anglers hooking into a few land locked salmon being caught trolling along the dam during the morning hours.

Thanks for reading and remember to keep it reel.  Don = 4Reel Fishin’
