Robert was born on May 4th, 1970 in Springfield, Missouri. After winning the State Championship in Golf he graduated early from Glendale High School and attended University of Missouri on a full ride golf scholarship where he earned his Bachelors in Finance and Real Estate Already having that entrepreneur spirit during his college years he started Guru Golf where he developed and obtained seven patents for an electronic golf putting device which resulted in selling units through Sharper Image and Brookstone. After graduating college he followed in his Grandfather and Father’s footsteps and joined R.B Murray Co. in Springfield. As a Developer and Real Estate Broker he was voted “12 People To Know In Springfield” by the Springfield Business Journal. He was a member of CCIM and SIOR and opened the R.B. Murray satellite office in Branson, Missouri.
He enjoyed new challenges and had a diverse history and a personal involvement in capital fundraising, business reorganization, company branding and pattern strategies. This entrepreneurial spirit along with his passion for sustainability led him to create and develop the first sustainable (green) office development in the Midwest, TerraGreen Office Park. He also was always giving back to his community and served on the boards of Commerce Bank and The Workshop Foundation, was a Panelist for the Ozarks Regional Economic Partnership, and a Volunteer on the City’s Development Task Force. He owned and grew a printing and publishing company called Crested Butte Printing in Colorado with his friend, Steve Mabry. Printing books from Aspen to Santa Fe while mountain biking and snow skiing in between. He continued to follow his passions and bought, grew and sold a number of businesses, most notably SoulLightCreative, an umbrella company for endeavors such as patents for medical rehabilitation equipment, including creating a mental health tracking app for patients with their doctors.
He loved all that he did and especially enjoyed trying to “become an expert” at each endeavor. Rob created the charity “Epic Everyday” and raised money for underserved, struggling single mothers, even taking them and their children to Disneyland. He also had a passion for photography and worked with celebrity photographer Frank Micelotta of PictureGroup learning the trade. With this skill he shot nature photography and had art installations in commercial settings. Always up for adventure he traveled to the Lost City of Petra with his brother-in-law doing the photography for their coffee table book called Uncharted. Rob and his sister, Jill North, currently own a Malibu Beach Lifestyle Company, called Surfmonk Malibu.
Like his Uncle Jarrett Murray and Great Uncle Dave Simmons, Rob was an avid endurance athlete and outdoorsman. He was obsessed with Sunrise Surfing in Ventura and Malibu, Camping with his nephews, Cooper and Jarrett, grilling chicken apple sausages over a campfire, boating to the islands and ocean fishing with his family, friends and nephews. Cycling and enjoying fish tacos at sunset on the beach was a family favorite. Some of his most cherished activities were spending time with his Dad playing golf, riding motorcycles and fly fishing.
His dear friend described Rob as, “An avid angler, cyclist and photographer. Equally at home in the salt water hunting giant tarpon as he was on the single track trails of his beloved Crested Butte. As an angler Rob was artful and prolific. Effortlessly switching between the nuance of casting to a rising trout on a mountain stream, and to the demands of the 100′ cast required on the saltwater flats. Rob was technically proficient and powerful, providing a casting clinic to all that were lucky enough to be at his side. His fishing adventures spanned the globe from the jungles of Brazil to the Northwoods of Wisconsin. Cycling was a passion of Robs born from his days as a competitive triathlete. Expressing his easy athleticism by bombing the downhills in the Leadville 100 and then comfortably transitioning to climbing the rigor of the Triple bypass. Rob was a cyclist in the truest form, his love of the bike rooted in the solitary freedom only achieved on two wheels. Rob always maintained the philosophy that an Italian bicycle was faster, period.”
Rob was brilliant, passionate, giving and fast in all that he did. He will be eternally missed and eternally loved. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the Faith” -2 Timothy 4:7
Private family services will be held with burial in Maple Park Cemetery.
