MARTINSBURG — West Virginia State Trooper Eric Workman was killed in the line of duty in August of 2012. After his tragic passing, the Trooper Eric Workman Foundation was created after the first memorial musky fishing tournament was held in Eric’s name in 2013, as Eric loved to fish, especially for musky. Each year, the foundation gave back to the community that had been by their side since the beginning for numerous items for both law enforcement and the WVDNR National Resource Officers. Among the money given back to the community each year, the foundation donated to Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, Inc. (PHWFF) because they believed in the mission and serving those who have served.

PHWFF is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization serving disabled veterans and disabled active military service personnel across the nation. PHWFF is dedicated to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled active military service personnel and disabled veterans through fly fishing and associated activities including education and outings. The West Virginia region of PHWFF has 9 programs across the state: Wheeling, Parkersburg, Charleston, Huntington, Beckley, Clarksburg, Lewisburg, Morgantown, and Martinsburg.

“We are excited to hold our 2nd Annual Eric Workman Memorial Musky Tournament to benefit programs and disabled Veterans in West Virginia,” said Bubba Holt, PHWFF Regional Coordinator for West Virginia. “Our first tournament in 2021 was a success, and we are looking forward to making it bigger and even better in 2022. We urge people to register and support this tournament as all proceeds go to our disabled Veterans in our PHWFF programs in West Virginia.”

The tournament for 2022 will be held on Oct. 22 and Oct. 23, and anglers can fish anywhere in the state of West Virginia. Registration can be done on TourneyX.com by searching for Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, and then the Eric Workman Memorial Musky Tournament (https://tourneyx.com/leaderboard/standings/2022-eric-workman-memorial-musky-tournament). Cost is $55 per angler, and all proceeds will go directly to supporting disabled veterans and disabled active military service personnel in the 9 programs in West Virginia. The proceeds will go towards fly fishing equipment, fly tying and fly rod building materials, fly fishing outings, and more.
