In this great video from the Orvis Fly Fishing Learning Center chapter on Great Lakes Steelhead, Tom Rosenbauer talks about the nuances of getting your fly to swim enticingly when you’re swinging for steelhead (or trout or salmon). If you want to entice steelhead to take a swinging fly, you have to do more than just cast across the current and let the current pull your fly. Learn some of ways you can use the current, casting angler, head weight, mending, and the direction of your rod tip to affect the speed and depth of the swing.
