SUBLETTE COUNTY – Casting for Recovery in Wyoming received an $846 donation from Bomgaars on Dec. 30. Bomgaars hosted a “Ladies Night” fundraiser and split the proceeds between several charitable organizations, including Casting for Recovery.
Casting for Recorvery volunteers Pat Poletti and Vicky Marshall, along with the organization’s co-founder, Gwenn Bogart, accepted the donation from Bomgaars store manager April Ginest.
Casting for Recovery provides fly-fishing retreats to “enhance the quality of life of women with breast cancer,” according to literature provided by Poletti. Two retreats are held for breast cancer survivors in Wyoming at the Absaroka Guest Ranch near Dubois in July.
During the three-day retreat, women create connections with other survivors and discover inspiration and support through the healing sport of fly-fishing and outdoor adventure.
Bogart, a professional fly fisher and competitive dog musher, and Dr. Benita Walton, a breast reconstruction surgeon, formed the non-profit organization in 1998.
Volunteers organize the retreats. Participants apply in late November and early December and are selected at random to attend a retreat.
Casting for Recovery is in its 11th year in Wyoming. The organization has served over 100 women in Wyoming since 2011.
