If you’re like us, you might’ve logged into your first Zoom of the spring semester only to drop that class like it’s hot just an hour later. Luckily, you’ve still got some time to add some meat to your spring semester schedule.

With Penn State’s regular add deadline quickly approaching at 11:59 p.m. Monday night, we decided to comb the course calendar to help you in your search for a unique one-credit class that’ll fit into nearly any schedule.

The classes on this list are not “special topics” courses that change semester to semester. They’re available to all Penn State students, and their descriptions are available in the official undergraduate course catalog.

Without further ado, let’s check out some classes:

CSD 101: Preventing Hearing Loss (1.5 credits)

OK, so the first course on this list is actually 1.5 credits. We lied! That doesn’t take away from the fact that this class is absolutely prevalent in society today.

Without concerts and other live entertainment, we have transitioned to blasting music in our headphones constantly. As enjoyable as that may be, none of us want to end up like your hard-of-hearing great aunt Lucy because of it, and this class aims to teach principles that will assist in that regard.

Also, if you’re reading this and have a friend whose Spotify wrapped from this past year consisted of 150 hours of Slipknot, you might want to recommend this course to them.

FOR 228: Chainsaw Safety, Maintenance, & Operation In Forest Management

The ability to operate a chainsaw safely is a lost art in today’s society. To be completely honest, it’s just easier to pay a company to cut out that pesky bush or remove that downed limb. Along with saving a lot of money, it would be an interesting anecdote to mention that you learned how to use a chainsaw in college.

COMM 268: Media Graphics Tools

Although this class is geared toward communications majors, learning the basics of Adobe’s Photoshop and InDesign programs can be valuable to anyone.

Penn State students have access to thousands of dollars of software in the Adobe Creative Cloud, and it could prove beneficial to know how to use some of it.

MUSIC 50: Beginning Piano: Non-Music Major

If you’ve ever dreamed of being the next Beethoven but aren’t a music major, this introductory course will give you that chance. Frankly, being able to play the piano is awesome, and if you happen to need one GA credit, look no further than this class.

DANCE 222: Beginning Hip Hop Dance

This particular course aims to introduce hip hop culture through dance and expression, as well as enhancing mind and body awareness. If you’re feeling like getting your groove on and relieving stress while learning simultaneously, this class is definitely one to consider.

Various Introductory KINES Classes

While COVID-19 has impacted a fair amount of KINES introductory courses these past two semesters, the sheer amount of classes is worth making a note of for the future.

With classes like rock climbing, downhill skiing, and golf, any athlete can solidify their GHW requirements relatively quickly. If active sports are not ideal, there are classes on yoga, walking, and fly fishing if serenity and relaxation is more your speed.
