Feb. 23—It is said the best things in life are free.
That means the Cabin Fever Reliever presented by the Penobscot Fly Fishers should be a really good way to spend a few hours of your upcoming weekend. Admission, as you may have guessed, is free.
On Saturday and Sunday, folks from the world of fly fishing and across the spectrum of Maine’s most beloved outdoors pursuits will gather for the 16th edition of the Cabin Fever Reliever at Ferris Community Center, better known as the Brewer Auditorium.
The show will feature a variety of exhibitors who will be ready to discuss fly fishing and all else outdoors during the family oriented event, which is back after a one-year, COVID-19-induced hiatus.
The Cabin Fever Reliever is complying with COVID-19 guidance provided by the City of Brewer. The use of face coverings is encouraged but is not mandatory.
No vaccination card is required. Masks and hand sanitizer will be available.
Youth will have the opportunity to try their hand with the indoor air rifle and archery ranges while adults will have the opportunity to speak with participants and attendees.
Featured speakers for the show include Maine outdoors author Randy Spencer, Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife fisheries biologist Greg Burr and longtime outdoorsman and author Tim Caverly.
Spencer, whose latest book is entitled, “Written on Water,” is scheduled to speak from 11 a.m. until noon on both Saturday and Sunday. Caverly, who produces the content for his “Allagash Trails” Facebook page, will take the stage from 2-3 p.m. Saturday and from 1-2 p.m. Sunday.
Burr will do a presentation discussing the fisheries of Hancock and Washington counties from 1-2 p.m. on Saturday.
I’ll be on hand representing the Bangor Daily News. And since I’m new to the outdoors beat, I have a lot of catching up to do.
That’s why I’m excited to have the chance to meet like-minded folks and to talk about fishing, hunting or whatever might be on your mind. So stop on by and say hello!
BDN Outdoors contributor Aislinn Sarnacki, a longtime favorite of our readers, also may make an appearance. The Registered Maine Guide has a tremendous depth of knowledge about hiking in Maine and she’s always ready to share some tips.
Aislinn also is the author of “Family Friendly Hikes in Maine” and “Dog Friendly Hikes in Maine” and “Maine Hikes Off the Beaten Path.”
The Cabin Fever Reliever runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. Come on by and get some insight on how to have some outdoors fun in Maine in 2022.
