Dr. Donald E. “Don” Sharp Jr.

HOLLIS CENTER – Dr. Donald E. “Don” Sharp Jr., 48, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2021 at his residence with his family by his side.

Don was born in Morristown, N.J., on August 31, 1973, the son of Donald Sharp Sr. and Sherry Canova.

At a young age, Don moved from Toms River, New Jersey to Vermont where he graduated from Woodstock High School. He later graduated from the University of Vermont in Burlington and went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Forensic Anthropology from George Washington University.

In addition to his work, Don served in the U.S. Navy as a SEAL. After years of service and work as an anthropologist, he pursued a career in veterinary medicine. He studied at Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine in Massachusetts, where he met his wife.

After graduating in 2014, Don practiced medicine in the Lewiston area, Kennebunk, and most recently at the Hollis Animal Clinic. He also taught ultrasound imaging as an instructor at the Sound Academy of Veterinary Imaging.

Don was also a Master Luthier and owned and operated Sharp Guitars for many years.

He enjoyed fly-fishing, photography, and surfing. However, his biggest love in life was being a father to his two children.

Don is survived by his wife, Kathleen Ponzetti, son Caleb Sharp, and daughter Noelle Sharp of Hollis, his parents, Donald and Sherry Sharp, and his sister Heidi Sharp of East Baldwin, and nephew Jackson Scranton.

A private family service will be held at the Bear Hill Church in Hollis.

Burial will follow at Cedar Brook Cemetery in Limington.

Rev. Susan Taylor will officiate.

A celebration of his life is planned for the spring.
