At the 27th annual general meeting of the South Coast Fly Anglers, held at the Umtentweni Tennis Club recently, last year’s committee was again re-elected unopposed.
John New remains as chairman for the 12th year and Stephen Brand retains his position as the minister of finance, this for the 13th straight year.
Dick Plaistowe is again secretary, while Pieter van der Merwe, Arthur Cary and Neil Scott again occupy the portfolios of liaison, scribe and member respectively.
South Coast Fly Anglers is a fly fishing club founded by the late Chris van Wyk and others in 1995. The club organises at least one salt water and one freshwater outing every month, as well as a fly tying workshop and a monthly meeting.
In addition to fishing local beaches, trips to the Durban harbour, the St Lucia Estuary and Cape Vidal are undertaken.
Fresh water species that are targeted, include rainbow and brown trout in the Kokstad, Matatiele and Drakensberg regions, as well as yellow fish in the Umzimkulu, Lower Orange River and Sterkfontein Dam areas. The club has access to many local farm dams, where bass are the primary target.
Would-be visitors to outings, the fly tying workshops or to the monthly meetings are welcome to contact chairman John New on 079 4346168, treasurer Stephen Brand on 082 5519010 or liaison officer Pieter van der Merwe on 083 5437005.
