The Normalville Area Volunteer Fire Department will be selling hoagies Sept. 3 at the intersection in Normalville and at the Saltlick Township Volunteer Fire Department fire hall in Indian Head beginning at 8 a.m. Pizza and Wings Night will not be held in September.
The Indian Creek Valley food pantry is under new sponsorship through the Critchfield Christian & Missionary Alliance Church. It will still distribute food on the first Wednesday of each month from 8 a.m. to noon in the same location that it always did. They are in the rear of the old Christian Service Center which is now May’s Country Store. The Mays have graciously permitted the ICV Food Pantry to remain and distribute food as usual. The Indian Head Church of God Community Luncheon Ministry will be offering free homemade soup 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 14 while supplies last. Soup will be packaged in containers and distributed in the church parking lot by drive through only. The church is located at 691 Indian Creek Valley Road. Everyone is welcome.
Calvary United Methodist Church, 328 Calvary Church Road, Acme, is holding its first-ever Fall Community Homecoming 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 17. Following is the schedule of events:
• 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. there will be a Pavilion Sale with quality household goods and gently used clothing from their church families. You will be sure to find a treasure.
• 11 a.m. Puppets of Praise will be there for children of all ages for a 30-minute show. Admission is just a free-will offering opportunity.
• 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. enjoy a Souper Lunch. A variety of soup, sandwiches and apple dumplings will be available.
1 p.m. a piano concert with Carolanne will be present with your favorite renditions of the gospel message. Carolanne is an accomplished musician who lovingly shares her God-given talent. Favorite hymns may be requested.
Also come meet their pastor Jeri Penrod, visit Kid’s Night-Crafting for Kids booth and the youth’s Prayer Room.
Paradise United Methodist Church will hold its Fall Ham & Beef Dinner on Sept. 17. Meals will be take-out only. The meals include ham, beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, noodles, green beans, applesauce, coleslaw, bread and dessert. Tickets are $15 for adults and $6 for children. The church is located at 105 Hoke Road, Mt. Pleasant.
Cruz’n The Mountains will return to the Mill Run Recreation Field on Sept. 17. Registration is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. There is an $8 fee per vehicle and all vehicles are welcome including motorcycles, trucks and farm tractors. If you are proud of it and think it is cool, bring it. Trophies will be awarded at 4:30 p.m. Dash plaques will be given to the 1st 100 cars.There will be goodie bags, door prizes, a 50/50 drawing, ice cream treats and an auction. The Mountain Watershed Association is currently seeking local artisans and vendors to set up at the 2022 Indian Creek Watershed Festival 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 24 at CW Resh Park in Indian Head. There is a $10 set up fee. If you are interested, go to their website mtwatershed.com and fill out the form and return it to Mountain Watershed Association by stopping at their office or mailing it to PO Box 408, Melcroft, PA 15462. The annual Indian Creek Watershed Festival will be held 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 24 at CW Resh Park in Indian Head. There will be fly fishing demonstrations, kids’ activities, story time, gear swap, food and vendors. Be one of the first 100 children participating in the fishing derby and receive a free fishing pole. The derby is limited to children ages 12 and under. Admission is free. The Saltlick Township Supervisors will be conducting a large household item drop-off at the township building located at 147 Municipal Building Road, Melcroft, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 24.
The township will be there to help with all unloading. At no other time will the township receive any junk items. Acceptable items are:
• Vehicle tires. Limit 4 per household, and additional tires will be taken at a price of $2 per tire. All tires must be off rims.
• Televisions and computers.
• Vehicle batteries.
• Appliances. Stoves, dishwashers, refrigerators, freezers, etc.
• Furniture. Couches, chairs, dressers, beds, mattresses, etc.
No household garbage, hazardous household waste or paint cans. You must have an ID proving residency in Saltlick Township.
The Little Free Library in front, outside of the Springfield Clifford N. Pritts Elementary School in Normalville is celebrating its two-year anniversary in September. September will have a featured author, books for adults, teens and children. Added books will be about animals, dragons, historical fiction and a variety of other genres. Some surprise items will be added throughout the month, along with coloring books, puzzle books, activity books, pencils and bookmarks. Thank you for reading and sharing books with the Little Free Library these past two years.
