New trout sculpture celebrated in Lanesbor

Lanesboro Arts partnered with local artists Don Bell and Anna Loney to present a free public art reception to celebrate the installation of the artists’ new trout sculpture called “fish/fence.” This sculpture is an artful bicycle park in Lanesboro’s downtown, at Parkway Place, while celebrating the local fish hatchery, trout streams and fly fishing community.  The artists and Lanesboro community members unveiled this new public sculpture on Saturday, May 28.
The three-foot long fish made of copper wire appears to be arcing above a masonry column adjacent to the Root River Rod Co.  The supporting armature for the fish form flows down and around the column, into the “water” from which the fish has erupted.  This “water” element will effectively form a short fence span between the column and nearby building and replace, in an artful way, a failing section of fence in this location. The new “water form” span will have a benefit to pedestrians and cyclists as an out of the way place to park a bicycle, as the artist intended.  See https://lanesboroarts.org/calendar/fish-fence/ for more information.
