For Americans, much uncertainty remains regarding the resumption of international travel, but when it comes to domestic destinations, their confidence appears to be growing.
According to the MMGY Global Travel Safety Barometer, which tracks traveler sentiment on a scale of zero (extremely unsafe) to 100 (extremely safe), Americans’ feelings on domestic travel were at 44 last month, up from 34 in May.
Those luxury travelers who might be ready for a stateside vacation sometime soon will find several new hotel offerings:
• The Emeline hotel in downtown Charleston, S.C., opened this month. The 212-room property represents another collaboration between investor Rockbridge and hotel operator Makeready, following their work on hotels such as the Adolphus in Dallas and the Noelle in Nashville.
The hotel’s design elements were “inspired by Charleston’s flora, fauna and its heritage as a port city,” according to an Emeline press release.
Accommodations range from the one-bedroom Atelier to the Maisonette bilevel suite offering courtyard views.
The menu at Frannie & the Fox comprises “sharable and approachable dishes that will delight guests with wood-fired regional ingredients showcasing Italian sensibilities,” and the restaurant offers dining indoors and in the courtyard.
The hotel’s Keep Shop Charleston sells ceramics, candles and other home goods made by local makers and artists, and its courtyard and greenhouse are part of the hotel’s more than 13,000 square feet of meetings and event space. The pet-friendly property offers complimentary treats and use of a dog mat and bowl.

• For those seeking outdoor adventure instead of Southern charm, the Preserve Sporting Club and Residences in Richmond, R.I., opened on June 16.
The 3,500-acre development’s activities include tennis, fly-fishing, an equestrian center with 100 miles of riding paths, an 18-hole golf course and ziplining.
It also features three sporting clay shooting courses and a shooting range that the Preserve says is the “longest indoor underground automated public range in the world.”
The Preserve’s grounds include private residences as well as guest lodging in the form of condos, townhouses and single-family residences available through a rental program with the Ocean House Collection (New England-based operators of the Relais & Chateaux Ocean House, Weekapaug Inn and Inn at Hastings Park).

• The 42-room Abbey Inn & Spa in New York state’s Hudson Valley opened in March. Formerly a convent of the Episcopal Sisters of Saint Mary, part of the property dates to the 1870s. It’s located next to Peekskill’s Fort Hill Park, site of a pivotal Revolutionary War battle.
Today the property houses a 2,500-square-foot spa and the Apropos Restaurant and Bar, which according to the hotel’s website “offers a contemporary atmosphere, a demonstration kitchen and farm-to-table cuisine, with Mediterranean-inspired flavors and ingredients sourced locally whenever possible.”
Rates begin at $279 per night.
