Men’s lacrosse signs 12 newcomers for 2023-24

MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men’s lacrosse team has announced the addition of 12 student-athletes for the 2023-24 academic year.

“We’re excited to sign 12 future Golden Eagles this fall,” MU head coach Andrew Stimmel said. “This group features a good mix of skill and grit that we hope will propel our program to future success. All come from winning programs and have the desire to be great at the next level. We’re looking forward to getting all 12 on campus next summer.”

The group includes student-athletes from six different U.S. states and one Canadian province with three players hailing from Pennsylvania and two each from Maryland and New York. Minnesota, Illinois, California and British Columbia are also represented.

In all, the class includes two long pole players, one defensive midfielder, one faceoff specialist, one goalie and seven midfielders/attackmen.

Prior to Marquette: Brandt is a four-year member of the boys’ lacrosse team at Benilde St. Margaret’s under head coach Giuseppe Palermo … As a junior in 2022, set records for the most points in state tournament history (21), most points in a state tournament game (10), most assists in a state tournament game (12) and most assists in one state tournament game (seven) …. Earned second team all-state as a junior in 2022 along with first team all-section, all-conference, and all-tournament team honors … Was also the team points leader as sophomore in 2021, earned second team all-state, first team all-section and all-conference honors … Played club lacrosse for True Minnesota under head coach Joe Wiechert.

Personal: Son of Jessica and Bob … Has an older brother, Tyler, and two younger siblings, Hudson and Bowen.

Stimmel on Brandt: “We believe Carsen is one of the best offensive players in the 2023 class. Whether he’s operating above or below GLE, he creates instant offense. He plays with a great combination of size, speed, skill, and IQ. Carsen prides himself on getting his teammates involved and making toughness plays. He’s been a big reason why BSM has won back-to-back Minnesota state championships.”

JP Henry and Ethan Salvia have played together for many years and the duo helped Shady Side win the WPIAL championship this past spring. We are excited to bring these two to Milwaukee.”

Personal: Son of Ashleigh and Denis Hulme … Two brothers, Cole and Nate … High school honor roll member with a 3.7 grade point average … Interests include football, skiing and was involved with Future Business Leaders of America and UNICEF in high school.

Stimmel on Hulme: “Zach is an athletic left-handed dodger who is capable of breaking down his defender in a variety of ways. The Philly toughness is easy to see in the way Zach plays. He has a strong ability to win his matchup, be a threat to score with a snappy left-handed release and feed his teammates. We’re looking forward to getting Zach on campus next fall.”

Stimmel on Schoenwetter: “We are very excited to bring in a Marquette legacy to the program. Both of Jack’s parents went to Marquette and there is no doubt the Schoenwetters bleed Blue and Gold. Jack is a talented short-stick defensive midfielder. His Loyola Blakefield defense was one of the best in the MIAA conference. Jack has excellent footwork when covering the ball and that allows him to be a disruptive presence on the ball. Having great short-stick defenders is the hallmark of any elite defense and we believe Jack will bring that to our program for years to come.”

Quinn Warwick MLAX Signee 2023Quinn Warwick | FO | 6-3 | 180 | Old Greenwich, Conn.

Stimmel on Warwick: “Quinn is an exciting addition to our face off unit. He is a big, physical presence at the X and couples his size with quick hands. Scoring 41 points his senior year is proof he is an offensive threat with the ball in his stick too. We really believe he is just scratching the surface of his potential and can’t wait to see his development first-hand in the coming years.”

 


Beau Westphal MLAX Signee 2023Beau Westphal | 6-1 | 195 | Orinda, Calif.

Prior to Marquette: Five-year member of the boys’ lacrosse program at Salisbury School under head coach Tom Spinella … Team captain in 2020-21, while also earning MVP honors … Captured two California NCS titles … Scored 78 goals and added 108 assists from freshman through junior years … Led midfield in points … Adrenaline All-American … Also played one season of football in 2021 … Played club lacrosse for both Sweetlax Florida and West Coast Starz.
