Fly Fishing Show includes film festival, demos and shopping
You can learn the basics of fly-fishing this weekend at The Fly Fishing Show in Pleasanton. Starting Friday, Feb. 25, and running through Sunday the Fly Fishing Show offers classes for every level, and you can take as many as you can fit in.
The show is at the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton, about an hour and 15 minute drive from Sonoma. If you love fishing it is a great show.
The classes are taught by experts including Gary Borger, Mac Brown and Whitney Gould. You can find a full list of what is offered at flyfishingshow.com. Some classes, including one for women only, are open to all levels of anglers. There are also classes for advanced fly-casting.
All of the classes will be held outdoors and you should bring your own rod and reel. Classes for fly-tiers are also being offered at the show. For either casting or tying you should register in advance by calling 814-443-3638 to reserve a spot in a class. With the $85 registration fee for classes, you get free admission to the show.
If you’re not interested in lessons, you could spend the entire day going from one incredible fishing movie to another, and there is a full schedule of films, 10 seminars by fly-fishing experts, and casting demonstrations.
The main exhibition hall can keep you occupied all day talking to the owners and managers of fishing resorts from all over North America and other parts of the world. You can watch their videos at their booths, pick up brochures and even make reservations for a fishing trip.
Every fly-fishing tool from factory-fresh rods and reels to boots, waders, clothing and accessories are offered there in booth after booth, so you can shop until you drop.
More than $30,000 in national door prizes, including fishing trips, tackle, clothing and accessories, are up for grabs. The Grand Prize – chosen from all six 2022 Fly Fishing Shows – is a $9,000 bonefish, tarpon and permit trip to Blue Horizon Lodge, Belize.
The regional premiere of the 2022 International Fly-fishing Film Festival is Friday at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door.
