When no fish are rising and you can’t see them actively feeding below the surface, you don’t really have many clues about what tactics will work best. So you guess and hope for the best. But sometimes, the trout will tell you what tactics you should be using. When that happens, it pays to listen.
In this great episode of “Master Class Monday,” Dave Jensen begins by explaining why they are fishing a particular trough below a riffle, and then he starts a lesson on nymphing. However, something happens that tells him that the fish don’t want nymphs. They want something else entirely, and when he gives it to them–success! It’s cool to see something like this happen in real time, and it’s a great lesson in paying attention and being willing to put that data to work.
