Master Class Monday: How to Deal with a Downstream Take

When a trout turns around and takes your fly swimming downstream, hooking the fish is often problematical. Dave and Amelia Jensen show us a great trick for hooking more of these tricky fish. As usual, we are treated to spectacular photos of large trout rising and feeding subsurface, and of Dave and Amelia hooking and missing them. Most of us won’t be fishing for trout this large, or won’t be able to see trout in the water, but we can still recognize a downstream rise when we see the white of a trout’s mouth or a downstream push. The cliché of saying “God Save the Queen” is still a good practice, as Dave suggests.
