Lewis Little Obituary (1930 – 2021) – Austin, TX

Lewis was a man who loved life. He was born in Temple, Texas on December 15, 1930 and passed away peacefully at home on October 21, 2021 with loved ones at his side. Lewis spent most of his youth living on ranches in Lampasas, San Angelo and Menard. He loved being outdoors hunting, fishing and hanging out with the ranch hands and his favorite dog. Lewis attended The University of Texas; he graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree and was a member of Phi Delta Theta where he made many life-long friends. Lewis’ experiences and lessons learned around the ranch led him to be involved in multiple segments of the cattle business as a career. The love of his life was his wife, Eleanor. They enjoyed being together, whether traveling to London, New Zealand and New York or when she would accompany him on bird hunts and fly fishing trips. Their favorite weekend dates were Friday nights at Matt’s El Rancho with Mo; Saturday night dinners at Tarry House where Bob always took such good care of them; and Sundays, when Lewis would masterfully grill a delicious filet, accompanied by sides lovingly prepared by Eleanor. Lewis was happiest when he was outdoors-shooting sporting clays; dove and quail hunting; and fly fishing. He shared this love of the outdoors with his children and grandchildren. His family enjoys the many funny stories from various deer blinds across Texas and from the family ranch in Menard.
Lewis also loved Longhorn sports-especially football and basketball – and watching any golf tournament. And as they watched these sporting events, he and Eleanor enjoyed the many delicacies he carefully selected during his weekly trips to Central Market.
In addition to his wife, Eleanor, Lewis is survived by his daughter Lutie Little Butler and her husband Bob; his son Lewis N Little, Jr. and his wife Jeanne; and his daughter Julie Little Metzger and her husband Dean. He is additionally survived by grandson Wesley Little and his wife Dora Lee and their son Clark and daughter Charlotte; granddaughter Anne Little Wiik and her husband Nick and their daughter Elizabeth; granddaughter Elizabeth Little Howden and her husband Spence; and granddaughter Claire Metzger. Lewis is also survived by his stepchildren David Ford and his wife Laura; Anne Ford Bald and her husband Fred; Cindy Ford Brown and her husband Scott; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to his many wonderful caregivers, especially Pam. Lewis’ care was a team effort and a special thanks goes to Michelle and Kym and all the caregivers at The Village at the Triangle and the thoughtful and professional care from the team at Sonder Hospice, especially Lloyd and Caitlin. We invite all friends and family to attend a Graveside Service on Monday, October 25 at 11 am which will be held at Austin Memorial Park located at 2800 Hancock Drive.
