Lary Dean Estricher, age 71, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at UPMC West Shore Hospital. Born December 30, 1950 in Harrisburg, he was a son of the late Henry Adam and Evelyn (Dulebohn) Estricher. Lary, a man who could be considered to be “everyone’s friend,” had a special way about him that endeared him to anyone he met. He was always able to find common ground in order to strike up a conversation with someone new…he was the perfect “front of the house” guy. Lary was a proud John Harris Pioneer, Class of 1969. He went on to attend the University of Arkansas before transferring to Shippensburg University where he earned both his Bachelor’s Degree in History and Master’s Degree in Public Administration. Lary’s professional career was long and varied. He began as a high school History teacher before beginning his career in state government as a planning consultant within the office of the Governor. Over the years, he had also become a wine connoisseur, a revered bartender at numerous local establishments, and part-time staffer at the Harrisburg YMCA. While not working, Lary enjoyed a multitude of activities and interests in his free time. He had a love of sports, enjoyed fly fishing, Civil War history, Victorian houses, and taking trips to Cape May, NJ with his wife, Lynn. He was also fond of cycling on local back roads as well as the bike paths of Sanibel, FL. Surviving is his loving wife of 25 years, Lynn Fleisher Estricher; his son, Dan of Strasburg, VA; his step-daughter, Tara Fleisher (Shawn) of Mechanicsburg; his granddaughter, Lily Fleisher of Mechanicsburg; and his sister, Judie (Estricher) Sharbaugh (Tom) of Sanibel, FL. Lary’s family would like to extend a special message of gratitude to the staff at UPMC West Shore, especially Dr. Salvatore Parascandola and the nurses and aides on the 5th floor for their outstanding and compassionate care and support during his stay. In accordance with Lary’s wishes, there will be no services at this time. A Celebration of Life will be announced in the future. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to benefit either Vickie’s Angel Foundation at www.vickiesangelfoundation.org or the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network at bcan.org/get-involved/ways-to-give/donate To sign the online guest book, please visit www.malpezzifuneralhome.com
