Larry was born November 28, 1948 in Haywood County, North Carolina. He was a 1967 graduate of Pisgah High School and a true Black Bear fan! He continued his education earning an Associate degree from Asheville Buncombe Technical College and also received a Bachelor’s degree from Western Carolina University. Larry married the love of his life, Jennifer Crisp Grogan in July of 1969 and they have shared 52 wonderful years together. They were blessed with three amazing daughters, Christy (who preceded her Daddy in death), Cara and (Shaun) Heatherly and Corrie and (Chris) Coats. Larry’s grandchildren were his pride and joy, Hayden, Emmett, and Cromer Coats and also a beloved step-granddaughter, Bailey Rouse each making his life complete. He is also survived by his sister, Sandy and (Dennis) Hipps, a sister-in-law, Suzanne Ames and a brother-in-law, Lee Crisp and (Tony Porter), as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his daughter, he was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Madge Smathers Grogan ; his mother and father in-law, Cromer and Suzie Bramlett Crisp; his brother-in-law, Dannie Mease and also many aunts and uncles.
Larry was employed with BASF Corporation as a designer for 30 dedicated years and where he made many friendships that have been an important part of his life. He was a faithful and active church member, serving as a Deacon, youth director, choir member, RA Leader and Sunday school teacher. He loved the Lord with all his heart and soul and he loved to sing God’s praises. Larry was a true family man and he cherished life’s greatest gift -the time that he spent with his children, grandchildren, and also the youth of his church and community. Larry was a wonderful storyteller and he enjoyed spinning a great tale for his family and friends. He loved the mountains where he was born and raised and was indeed a true outdoorsman, going fly fishing, taking hunting trips and especially spending a great day at the lake.
Larry Dean Grogan will be forever remembered as a man of great faith, a man who was devoted to his family and a man who lived his life as an example for us to follow each and every day. He was loved fiercely and will be missed by many. What a joyful Heavenly homecoming as Jesus welcomed him home on Friday morning with “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”
Please join the Grogan family in celebration of Larry’s life at 4:30 pm, Monday, March 7, 2022 at Canton First Baptist Church. Reverend Jeff King and Reverend Court Greene will be officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Family and friends are welcome to dress casually and comfortably for the life celebration service.
In lieu of flowers, the Grogan family ask that you enjoy a special activity or outing with your family in memory of Larry. He would be pleased.
