Trout Unlimited meeting

The Clear Fork River Chapter of Trout Unlimited will meet at 7:15 p.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church, 621 College Ave., Wooster. In addition to meeting in-person, a Zoom option is available. To join remotely, send an email message to cfrtu.rsvp@gmail.com asking for access to the Nov. 14 meeting and include name and email address. A reply will be sent that has a link to the meeting.

There will be a discussion of chapter activities, including the recent Learn to Fly Fish class, and a raffle of fly fishing equipment. Daily Record Outdoor correspondent Art Holden will speak on “How to Catch Fish Year-Round in Ohio,” from what species to target, to where best to catch them. Holden has been writing outdoor stories for The Daily Record since 1987. In his presentation, Holden will discuss his July fishing trip to a remote fly-in lake in northern Manitoba, where he targeted giant pike and lake trout with his son, Izzy.

Details of this and future TU meetings, plus other chapter activities and local fishing reports, can be found at cfrtu.org.  All meetings are open to the public and anyone interested in fishing and cold water fisheries preservation is encouraged to participate. Interested women anglers are especially invited to attend.

Mobility impaired deer hunt

Wayne County Izaak Walton League is sponsoring a mobility impaired (wheelchair) deer hunt. The hunt allows permanently or temporarily disabled hunters an opportunity to hunt during the 2022 deer gun season. Hunting experience is not required, but a valid hunting license and deer permit are required of each hunter.

The hunt location is 6928 Cedar Valley Road, West Salem. The mobility impaired hunt is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 28, through Wednesday, Nov. 30. The chapter has wheelchair accessible carts to transport hunters and four covered blinds to hunt from. The Izaak Walton League is accepting applicants, with the deadline for application Nov. 12.

There will be a hunter orientation at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20. The orientation will allow hunters to view the blinds and become familiar with the club grounds. Call Roger Schrader at 330-263-6432 for an application.
