ASHEVILLE – Don’t forget to tune into National Geographic this weekend to watch famously shouty chef Gordon Ramsay, best known as the star of “Hell’s Kitchen,” as he sweeps his way through Western North Carolina and battles William Dissen, chef-owner of The Market Place, in a cookoff.

In the “Gordon Ramsay: Uncharted” episode, Ramsay also visits Hickory Nut Gap Farm, where he meets up with Matt Helms from The Chop Shop Butchery to learn the ins and outs of livermush made with Hickory Nut Gap pork.

The 10-destination National Geographic Channel series follows Ramsay as he, according to a network blurb, “journeys to some of the most incredible and remote locations on Earth in search of culinary inspiration, epic adventures and cultural experiences he will never forget.”

For the mainly Western North Carolina-focused episode, “The Great Smoky Mountains,” Ramsay also visited with some of Hickory Nut Gap’s heritage breed hogs.

Ramsay also learned about Cherokee Native American culture and food heritage, fished for crawfish and visited the moonshine makers at Howling Moon Distillery.

“To be able to showcase and talk about the flavors and history of the region was really neat, and I had a lot of conversations with Gordon both on and off the camera,” Dissen told the Citizen Times in May.

It helped that Dissen took Ramsay fly fishing and sung the praises of the area’s natural beauty and resources, including abundant edible and medicinal plants and game.

“And I think he really was enamored of everything we had,” Dissen said.
