Rock the vote: Election Day is Tuesday for voters who did not cast early votes or vote by mail. All voting places in Cumberland County will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. A list of polling places is at fayobserver.com. No photo ID will be required this year. Voters who are unable to enter a voting place because of age or physical disability can vote in their vehicle. Explore Lake Rim: Kayak tours at Lake Rim Park offer a chance to relax on the water. Beginners are encouraged to take a lake tour before going on a kayak trip. Kayaking equipment and basic instruction for beginners will be provided. Registration begins Nov. 2, and space is limited. Participants under 16 must be accompanied by a participating adults. Tours are for adults and children age 10 and older. Tours are scheduled from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Nov. 14 and cost $15, or $5 with your own boat. The park is at 2214 Tar Kiln Drive. Call 910-433-1018.
Bluegrass and barbecue: Fayetteville Technical Community College will host Bluegrass and BBQ Dinner at Home on Nov. 7 and a silent auction online Nov. 4-8. The dinner is available for pickup or home delivery and includes beverages, flowers, and a link to view a live concert. Tickets are $75. Proceeds benefit student scholarships and emergency aid. Learn fly-tying: Pechmann Fishing Education Center will offer an online beginning fly-tying workshop from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 14. The workshop is designed to provide a basic knowledge of fly-tying tools, materials, patterns and tying techniques. Fly-tying is the process of producing an artificial fly used by fly-fishing anglers to catch fish. Students will complete six fly patterns over about eight hours of instruction. Virtual Choice Fair: Cumberland County Schools’ annual Choice Fair is going virtual. Families will be able to access virtual rooms and meet with school staff from every choice program in the district. CCS’ Virtual Choice Fair will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 14.
