It is with great sadness that we share our final farewell to Harry Ezra Young, 72, of Centennial, Colo., who passed after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s, surrounded by his loving family at his bedside, Nov. 8, 2021.
He was born Nov. 18, 1948, at Muncy Valley Hospital, the fourth child of the late, Henry T. and May Merrill Young, of Pennsdale. In September, he and his wife, Kathryn Cole Young, celebrated 32 years of marriage.
Harry was a very curious child, especially if the subject was mechanical in nature. At age 12, he placed 4th in the Class B Soap Box Derby Race in Rochester, N.Y., in his own home-built racer that earned him a shiny new Schwinn bicycle that he cherished. Harry attended Muncy Schools and excelled in wrestling under High School Coach, Earl Poust, before graduating from his father’s Alma Mater, Tabor Academy, Marion, Ma., where he was a 3-time New England Interscholastic Class A Prep School Wrestling Champ. In 1973, Harry graduated Williamsport Area Community College, now Pennsylvania College of Technology, with an Aviation Maintenance Technician Degree. While in college, he passed his Pilot’s License and completely restored a 1948 vintage Taylor Craft airplane, which he flew and landed on an approved grass landing strip on the family farm in Pennsdale. Harry worked for three years at Harrisburg International Airport before moving to Colorado, where he began a business with his brother, Jeffrey, in home construction and commercial real estate renovations. He was a self-taught craftsman and cabinet-maker and later was hired by Denver Hospital and Health Center in the Engineer/Cabin-maker department, where he retired after 28 years.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandpa and loved alpine skiing with his children and fly fishing with brother Jeff and he adored his two English Labs, Holly and Thor.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn, three children, Rachel, Henry and Palmer Young, two grandchildren, Valon and Alpine Young, all of Denver, three brothers, Stephen H. Young (Bobi), Muncy, John M. Young (Sue), Williamsport, Jeffrey Allen-Young (Darcy), Loveland, Colo., three sisters, Janette Y. Fisher (Dale), Allenwood, Elizabeth Y. Collins (Daniel), Zionsville Ind. and May Y. Jenks, Rochester, N.Y., all of whom flew to Co. for a final sibling reunion in October. He also has 2 Brothers-in-law, Jess Cole, Texas and John Cole, Conn., 12 Nieces & Nephews and 13 Grand nieces and nephews. Internment is being held at the family convenience.
