Harlan James Blackstone, 69, of Prague, Harlan loved prOklahoma passed away in his home on September 20th, 2022. Harlan was born to Helen and Joseph Blackstone on February 10th, 1953 in Guthrie, Oklahoma. He attended Purcell Public Schools growing up and was very active and loved sports until he graduated in 1971. He attended Oklahoma Central University on a full academic scholarship and then graduated medical school in 1979 from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. After which he specialized in Emergency and Family Medicine. He married Julie Marks following his graduation. Harlan and Julie had two children Rachael and Evan. The family moved to Shawnee in 1988. Harlan worked at Mission Hill Emergency Room, AM/PM clinic, and followed those by having a private practice before retiring at the age of 39 due to a stroke.
Harlan loved practicing medicine and enjoyed taking care of his patients. He was always up for a challenge solving medical puzzles or putting patients at ease. He often brought his guitar to play when he was on call in the ER. He was beloved by many patients and loved catching up with them when he saw them after retirement. He was known for his storytelling, and having an animated, charismatic personality. He also enjoyed flying small airplanes with his father Joseph. Harlan loved flyfishing, quail hunting, writing novels and continued all those well into his retirement. One of his favorite hobbies was training and doting on his bird dogs and often involved his children in the hobby. He also continued his love for playing guitar and started playing the violin. He found an interest in constructing and flying glider airplanes. Later in life, he moved in with his daughter Rachael, and son in law Tanner in Prague, Oklahoma and enjoyed family gatherings and playing and spending time with his grandchildren Waylon and Tanner Ann. Tanner Ann and Harlan loved playing with their model train and tracks while wearing their matching conductor hats. Harlan passed away at home, resting in bed with his beloved cat, Miss Wiskers.
He is survived by his daughter, Rachael Blackstone Fawcett, son in law Tanner Fawcett, grandchildren Waylon Fawcett and Tanner Ann Fawcett, son Evan Blackstone, sister JoAnne Blackstone, and sister inlaw Margie Komito, along with various extended family members.
He is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Helen Blackstone, his maternal grandparents Lorrina and JF Longpine, and paternal grandparents Harvey J and Mable Blackstone, along with other extended family.
Services will be privately held for family, and Harlan’s ashes will be spread at one of his favorite fly-fishing locations at Blue River at a later date.
