Wild & Scenic film fest returns to lighthouse

The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse & Museum will host the Wild & Scenic Film Festival from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, April 9.

After hosting the festival virtually during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse & Museum will offer the outdoor event once again in person. The local event will be emceed by 850 WFTL’s Karen Curtis.

Currents of Hope is the 2022 Wild & Scenic Film Festival theme. The single-night event featuring a series of 13 short films is meant to inspire engagement and provide an opportunity for guests to interact with other local environmental organizations, including Wild Dolphin Project, Surfrider Foundation, Let It Rot, Friends of Jupiter Beach, Beach Bucket Foundation, Wild Blue Sea, Bureau of Land Management, Jonathan Dickinson State Park, John D. MacArthur State Park and J.W. Corbett Wildlife Management/Fish and Wildlife Commission.

Local film “Hidden Wild” will be featured at this year’s On Tour event. New to the festival will be a live presentation featuring a panel discussion with the “Hidden Wild” filmmakers and the film’s stars. The panel will reflect on the expedition team’s seven-day journey from the headwaters of the Loxahatchee River to the Atlantic Ocean in Palm Beach County.

The event will kick off with food truck fare from Little Moir’s Hibiscus StrEATery, Churrasco Grill and Crunly Churros. Beverages will be available for purchase and a DJ will play tropical tunes.

Ticket holders are asked to bring lawn chairs. No coolers or pets are permitted for this event. Gates open at 6 p.m., films are scheduled to begin at dusk, approximately 8 p.m.

The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse & Museum is at 500 Captain Armour’s Way, in Jupiter. Limited tickets are $20 per person and parking is free. Tickets also are available for a Video On Demand option. RSVP online: bit.ly/WSFFJup2022.

BAM Festival back at Mandel library

It’s a celebration of books, art and music, and it’s back.

BAM Festival will return in person on April 9 to downtown West Palm Beach.

The festival takes place 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Mandel Public Library of West Palm Beach and along the 400 block of Clematis Street. The event is free and open to the public and celebrates books, art and music through interactive activities including book signings, author readings and writing workshops, illustrator demonstrations and activities, writing and drawing competitions, live music, street chalk drawing and more.

“BAM is bigger and better than ever this year with almost 40 bestselling authors, illustrators, and musicians. The festival gives children and young adults a chance to meet, learn, and be inspired by their favorite authors and illustrators,” Claire Salmon, president of BAM, said in a statement. “It is truly a unique experience that can inspire children to read, write, and explore the next level for those aspiring to be authors and artists.”

An event highlight is the author and illustrator panels that take place at the Mandel Public Library of West Palm Beach from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and include author story times and a variety of panels and workshops. Founded in 2011, BAM is a nonprofit organization dedicated to children’s literacy that has served over 166,000 local youth and families. All proceeds support children’s literacy, fund author visits to schools, provide Title I schools with books, and provide scholarship opportunities for writers. Its mission is to introduce children and young adults to the authors of the books they love and read. Originally titled “April is for Authors,” the event was re-branded “BAM Festival” in 2018 to include not only books, but art and music. Fishing Club plans Marine Yard Sale

The West Palm Beach Fishing Club’s annual Marine Yard Sale will return Saturday, April 9. The free event will take place from 8 a.m. to noon at the Fishing Club’s headquarters, at 201 Fifth St., West Palm Beach.

A variety of used items will be for sale, including fishing rods and reels, marine hardware, offshore and inshore lures, fishing lead, dock lines, gaffs, marine artwork, boat propellers, fly fishing tackle and many more marine related items.

Proceeds support the youth education and marine conservation efforts of the Palm Beach County Fishing Foundation, the Fishing Club’s charitable affiliate.
