Gregory C. Roush, aged 69, passed away from aggressive non-Hodgins lymphoma at his home on Monday morning, March 29th, 2021. Born at St. Mary’s Hospital In Reno, August 1951, to Lyle A. Roush and his wife, Charla Fletcher Roush, Greg received his early education in the Reno, Nevada schools and graduated from Reno High School in June 1969. Greg then graduated from the University of Nevada Reno with a degree in electronics engineering and went on to have a distinguished career as a radar antennae designer and RF expert for the Department of Defense at China Lake, California.
Greg was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity and while at a fraternity social in the Fall of 1971 met his wife, the former Linda Douglass. After Linda’s graduation, they married in August of 1974 and moved to China Lake the following spring. They have two sons, Benjamin and Thomas, and 2 grandsons, Benjamin and Charles. Greg’s sister, Jacqueline Roush Morris lives with her husband, David James Morris (Jim) in British Columbia, Canada.
Greg learned to be a HAM radio operator when he was 12 and was still active in the local HAM organizations. He also loved to fly fish with his fellow Aguabonita Fly Fishing Club members, sail with friends Penny Bott and Katie Smith in the British Virgin Islands and go target shooting out in the desert. He was a merit badge counselor for both knot tying and archery with the Boy Scouts, and would regale everyone with his regrets that the Boy Scouts no longer required morse code to be taught. WA7IRW will long be remembered for his dedication to nature conservation as well as to conservative causes. He joined the Sons of the American Revolution several years ago and attended their meetings regularly. Please lift a glass of rum and coke to a life well-lived! Here’s to Greg – long may we remember him!!
If you wish to donate to one of his favorite groups, please feel free to send a donation to the Nature Conservancy or the National Rifle Association. Burial will be Tuesday afternoon, April 6th, at Mountain View Cemetery with Walton’s Funeral Home Sierra Chapel, corner of Second and Vine in Reno, NV in charge of the arrangements.
