YORK – George ‘Skip’ Martin Weigle, III passed away March 4th at John Hopkins Cancer Center after fighting acute myeloid leukemia. He was the son of Gloria (Smith) and George Weigle, Jr. and brother of Georgia Hausman, all who preceded him in death. He was 74.
He is survived by his wife, Kim (Myers) Weigle. George would tell you they were together for 42 fun filled years. Kim and George were very grateful for friends and family who ‘circled the wagons’ during his last few weeks. Kirk Taylor, who is like a son and longtime friend Carl Lanius. His sister, Gretchen Garrett, niece Allison Heist, and brother/sister in law, Steve and Lois Myers.
He graduated from Central High in 1965, enlisted in the Army, proudly served in Vietnam, and retired from Adhesives Research as Warehouse/Inventory Manager. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Victory Athletic Assoc., Hawk Gunning Club, Hawk Mountain Sanctuary and Starview Sportsman Assoc.
George loved his dogs, westerns, country music, bird watching, and reading. He enjoyed driving sports cars, riding his Harley, backpacking, camping, golfing and boating. His fondest fishing adventures were fly fishing in Montana and remote fly-in fishing in Canada. But his true passion was preparing for hunting season. Putting the trail cams out, getting all his gear together, and putting up tree stands. He couldn’t wait to meet with the group at the farm on the season’s first day. He didn’t care if he got a deer, he just enjoyed time in the woods with friends.
Years ago, he donated his body for medical research through Humanity Gifts Registry, Philadelphia. At his request, there will be no service. George didn’t fear death as much as he feared the indignity of deterioration or dependency. He would encourage you to consider making an anatomical gift of organs or body for medical research and education, in hope of helping others.
