GoFundMe for fatal hit-run

After a hit and run took a Penticton man’s life on Monday night, community members are stepping forward to help the family facing the loss and impending funeral costs.

Ned Catroppa was struck about 7:40 p.m. at the intersection of Winnipeg Street and Nanaimo Avenue West in Penticton, and was later pronounced dead at Penticton Regional Hospital after succumbing to his injuries.

RCMP stated that the driver who hit him did not stop.

“Ned Catroppa is being remembered as a kind and generous individual who loved fly fishing, gardening and being around friends and loved ones,” Debbie Ramsay, a friend of the couple said on a GoFundMe page set up to help the family.

“Ned was a sweetheart, very generous, kind and a super nice guy. We will all miss him,” she wrote.

Ramsay used to play a lot of pool at the old Annabeth’s. “His wife was the bartender there,” Ramsay said. “I spoke to a couple of members of the Penticton pool league and had experience with it (GoFundMe) before, so they told me to go for it.

“His wife Linda, of many years, will need our help financially for funeral costs. Bless your heart… She’s going to need it, they’re both just on pension.”

A direct e-transfer option is also available at [email protected] to save the processing fee that GoFundMe charges on donations.

Police are looking for any witness of the incident to come forward.

“Penticton RCMP have many resources assisting with this investigation and are asking for any witnesses, along with any dash camera and surveillance video of this incident someone may have,” Const. James Grandy stated in a press release.

Anyone with information is asked to call Penticton RCMP at 250-492-4300 and quote file 2021-2374.
