According to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office, the 44-year-old Mandeville man went missing on Sunday after a fishing trip. Deputies say Sunday, a boat was found floating under the bridge near the 23-mile marker unoccupied. The family believes Billy was fly fishing when the boat got away from him. “They had mentioned they discussed a location to go at goose point, which was roughly 6 to 8 miles removed from where the vessel was found,” Alfred Theriot said. Billy’s sister, Ann Crabtree, says after tragically losing their other sister just a few years ago they can’t fathom the thought of losing another member of their family. “It’s hard not to look at the worst, but the only thing that’s keeping us going is moving forward,” Crabtree said.”That’s the hope I’m trying to push to my mom because she cannot handle this I definitely can’t, but my mom cannot lose two of her three children she can’t,” Crabtree said. The Coast Guard suspended its search Monday evening for a missing boater on Lake Pontchartrain near New Orleans. Coast Guard crews searched for approximately 16 hours, covering more than 230 nautical square miles. Missing is Billy Coile, a 44-year-old Caucasian male last seen wearing a blue shirt and khakis. Coast Guard Sector New Orleans watchstanders received a report Sunday morning of a 12 to 14-foot recreational vessel adrift with no persons aboard near the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway at mile marker 23. “Making the decision to suspend a search and rescue case is never an easy one and it’s only made after careful consideration of factors involved in each case,” said Lt. Cmdr. Lauren Keefe, Sector New Orleans search and rescue mission coordinator. “We offer our deepest sympathies to the family during this difficult time.” WDSU clarified that the Coast Guard is the only agency that has suspended their search and rescue at this time.
