Donald P. Slopey

Donald P. Slopey, 89, of Mill Hall, passed away Monday, Oct. 19, 2020 at Nightengale’s Assisted Living, Mill Hall.

He was born in Mill Hall on Nov. 5, 1930, the son of the late Charles and Mae Bressler Slopey.

Don obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Penn State University before enlisting in the United States Air Force where he served as a math instructor for Air Force pilots from 1952 to 1958.

After his honorable discharge from the military, Don taught math at FDR High School in Lower Bucks County. Following his retirement, he returned home to Mill Hall where he owned and operated Slopey’s Tree Farm, which continues to operate under his daughter’s ownership.

Don was a member of the National Education Association. He was an avid collector of arrowheads and Native American pottery and loved fly fishing and hunting in his earlier years.

He is survived by four children, Donna (Bill) Walters of Florida, Bonnie (Dan Yarnell) Mardis of McElhattan, Kress Slopey of Mill Hall, and Linda (Scott) Andrus of Mill Hall; three step-children, Jerry, Brian and Kathy Franklin; three siblings, Fred Slopey, Audrey Barnes and Chuck Slopey; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A private service for Don will be held at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Inc., 231 High St., Flemington, Pa.
