On the early morning of November 30th, 2022, Diane Joy Wiese (Weststeyn) passed away after a long battle with brain cancer. Her husband Paul and her family were by her side.
Diane was born to Gerard and Audrey Weststeyn on October 11, 1968. She graduated from Ripon Christian Schools in 1986. She completed her Bachelor’s degree from Fresno Pacific University in 1990. After teaching and coaching she went on to attain her Master’s Degree in Special Education in 1995. She taught and coached Women’s Basketball at Fresno Pacific from 1995-2005, becoming the all-time winningest coach in FPU history. She was inducted into the FPU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2014. After retiring from coaching, she and Paul moved back to the central valley, making Ripon their home.
She served as the local director for Fellowship of Christian Athletes for six years before returning to the classroom at Lincoln High School in Stockton, California. She retired from teaching in 2020. Diane was a life-long member of Calvary Reformed Church in Ripon, California. She was an integral part of the church and was passionate about sharing her love for Christ. She participated in the church choir, bible studies, and prayer groups. Now that Diane has passed into the arms of our Lord, we are reminded that even though her time on earth is complete she is just beginning her eternal journey with our
heavenly Father.
Diane and Paul enjoyed spending their free time outdoors. Accomplished golfers, they enjoyed many
rounds together over the years. They also enjoyed many weekends with friend’s wine tasting in the Napa
and Healdsburg areas. Their true passion was fly fishing. Di was an avid angler and could out fish just about anyone with a fly rod. Their fishing expeditions took them all over California, Oregon, Montana, Alaska, Iceland and beyond. Di was always watching and sideline coaching her nephews and nieces in all of their sporting events. Auntie Di was their biggest fan. Di was competitive down to her core. That feisty spirit is no doubt what prepared her for the biggest
battle she would face – cancer. Her first diagnosis was in 2005 and she battled until her very last breath. Cancer may have thought it was attacking her but everyone knew she brought the fight.
She was preceded in death by her dad, Gerard Weststeyn and step dad Steve Hofman. She is survived by her husband of 24 years Paul Wiese, mother Audrey Hofman, sister Christine Carvalho, and brother Mike Weststeyn (Amy). Her twin sister Karen Fountain (Jerry), mother-in-law Sherrie Sterling, sister-in-law Angie Laney (Jason), and nephews and nieces; Austin, Josh (Kayla) and JT Carvalho. Walter and Garret Fountain. Beth Vander Weide (Drew), Erik and Megan Weststeyn. Breann Pickett (Bradley, Rowen), Maddison and Tessa Laney.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on December 12, 2022 at Ripon Cemetery. It will be followed by a church service at 11 a.m. at Calvary Reformed Church in Ripon and a luncheon reception at the Ripon Community Center, Ripon.
