Aurora Medical Center – Bay Area Cancer Survivor Walk: Tuesday, June 28 from 6:30pm-8:30pm Starting outside the Cancer Center (3003 University Dr, Marinette, WI 54143) and looping around the Mary Hofer Walking Trail Join the Aurora Medical Center – Bay Area Shared Governance Team and staff honor cancer survivors with a special luminary walk around our Mary Hofer Walking Trail. If you would like to decorate a luminary in honor of or in memory of a loved one, purchase a luminary 1 for $10 or 12 for $100. Luminary bags can be picked up to personalize and decorate from the Gift Shop, through June 27th by showing them your emailed donation receipt.

Local author, Ann Dallman, will read from her latest book, “Cady and the Birchbark Box,” and sign books on Wednesday, June 29 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Peshtigo Library. This book is the second in the Cady Whirlwind Thunder series. Her first book, “Cady and the Bear Necklace,” won numerous awards including the Midwest Book Award and Michigan Historical Society Book Award. The public is invited to attend.

Menominee American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) Unit 146 announces Poppy Days at Jack’s Fresh Market, Menominee, and to Even-It-Up at the cash register. The American Legion Family uses this symbolic flower, which is made by hospitalized and disabled veterans as a form of rehabilitation to honor, and support Veterans, military, and their families in need. In addition, area veterans have access to the following: DAV (Disabled American Veterans) for transportation, D. J. Jacobetti Veterans Home, Marquette, MI, Oscar G. Johnson Medical Center, Iron Mountain, MI, U. P. Honor Flight Program, and Wilwin Veterans Rehabilitation Center, Cygnet Cove in Lower Michigan. Thank you for supporting the ALA Poppy Program to honor the fallen, and support the living veterans.

Memory Matters – The Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) has partnered with Marinette County Libraries to offer FREE and confidential memory screenings. A memory screen is a wellness tool that helps identify possible changes in memory or cognition. This is not a diagnostic tool. Upcoming Memory Matters events are being held July 7th from 4pm to 6pm at the Goodman Library, and July 11th from 12:30pm-3:30pm at the Niagara Library. SHIPWRECKS OF THE GREAT LAKES: Get an in-depth look at how anthropologist Sarah Smith uses artifacts, documents, and photographs to study the Alvin Clark, or “Mystery Ship,” at Stephenson Public Library in Marinette on Wednesday, July 13, at 5pm. Automotive Maintenance Camp, July 6th & 7th from 8:00a.m.-2:00p.m., Welding Camp, July 18th – 22nd, from 8:00a.m.-2:00p.m., and Electro-Mechanical Technology & CNC/Machining Camps, July 25th – 29th, from 8:00a.m.-2:00p.m. Hands-on activities and instruction provided from NWTC faculty. MARV MAYER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP GOLF OUTING: Sponsored by the Menominee Kiwanis Club, this event will be held July 14 at Riverside Golf Club. It will be a four-person 18 hole scramble, named to honor Marv Mayer, former Menominee educator and a charter member of Menominee Kiwanis. Proceeds to provide scholarships for Menominee High School seniors. Entry fee includes green fees, cart and dinner. The field will be limited to 18 Teams. Featured will be prize money for the first two places in both gross and net divisions, plus on course hole contests, including $5,000 and $10,000 hole-in-one contests, plus 50/50 and additional raffles and prizes. RETURN TO WORK. The UW-Green Bay, Marinette Campus Division of Continuing Education & Community Engagement is offering a self-paced session on how to return to work during the COVID-19 pandemic. This online-only course can provide guidance to employees about actions they can take to keep themselves, their coworkers, their families and their community safe as businesses reopen and workers return to work. “Return to Work” also provides employees with insight into new or modified policies and procedures that business owners may implement to maintain a safer work environment and protect employee’s health during the COVID-19 outbreak. The estimated course length is 1 hour. Employees will take an online assessment to assure comprehension. The training can be completed in approximately 30 minutes. MENTAL HEALTH DURING A CRISIS. The UW-Green Bay, Marinette Campus Division of Continuing Education & Community Engagement is offering self-paced sessions on how to take care of ones mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic. This course was specifically developed to proactively address emotional upheaval and expand ones understanding of psychological well-being. Specifically, the course helps identify and help process reactions to crisis by learning healthy ways to cope when circumstances feel beyond ones control. The course will be taught my Angela Wessels, an alum of UW-Green Bay and has a bachelor’s degree in psychology with minors in human biology and human development. 1,000 BOOKS BEFORE KINDERGARTEN (ages birth to 6). People may talk to Lara Lakari at the Stephenson Public Library to register for this read-at-home program. For all the reasons reading to a child benefits brain development, people may use this program to establish the reading habit by tracking the books one and one’s child read together. For every 100 books one reads, a child earns a sticker to put on the bulletin boards at the library. At the end, one’s child earns a certificate of completion and a book to keep.

MARINETTE SENIOR CENTER OFFERINGS/INFORMATION. Individuals 50 or older qualify to become a member of the Marinette Senior Center. Yearly membership is $10 per person. The center offers a variety of activities, exercise opportunities, crafts, and monthly newsletter.
