COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) — Condé Nast Traveler included Colorado Springs as one of the best places to visit during Memorial Day Weekend in 2021.
The Pikes Peak Region was included in the article “The Best Memorial Day Weekend Getaways to Take This Year” alongside other places like the Grand Canyon, the Finger Lakes of New York, and Iceland.
The article referenced the city’s five military institutions, saying that causes a city-wide celebration for Memorial Day. They also recommended veteran-owned brewery Red Leg Brewing Company, which supplies the Broadmoor with its own custom beer.
The recently reopened Broadmoor Manitou and Pikes Peak Cog Railway was also included as something tourists would be interested in. The railway was closed for three years due to massive renovation. The train takes visitors to the top of Pikes Peak on a nine-mile scenic journey. The Cog began climbing in 1891.
The Cog is currently running at 100% capacity.
Beyond Memorial Day-specific festivities and the railway, the article included the abundance of outdoor activities people can enjoy in Colorado Springs. That includes horseback riding, golf, fly fishing, and of course, hiking.
