Memorial services for Clarence Nicholson Frierson, Jr. will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 900 Jordan Street, Shreveport, LA, at 12:00 noon on May 26, 2022. For those unable to attend in person, the service will be livestreamed at http://www.fpcshreveport.org and on the church’s Facebook page.
“Tannie,” as he was known to all who loved him, was born on May 5, 1955, and passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2022. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Clarence Nicholson Frierson. Tannie is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Jennifer Hancock Frierson, and five children: Mary Helen Marrs and husband Brandon, William R. Frierson and wife Kylie, Thomas N. Frierson and fiancé Mary Elizabeth, Timothy H. Frierson, and Matthew A. Frierson. He is also survived by six grandchildren who lovingly called him “Pap”: Bahan, Witten, and Nicholson Marrs; and Allie, Claire and Wyatt Frierson. Tannie is also survived by his brothers: G. Archer Frierson II and wife Ivy, John B. Frierson and wife Christy, and Christian B. Frierson and wife Paula, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Tannie was an excellent athlete, winning the city football championship at South Highlands in 1965. He was an all-district football player for Capt. Shreve High School in 1972, where he graduated in 1973. In the fall of 1973, he played football for Washington and Lee University. Upon transferring back home to Louisiana State University, Tannie was a proud member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity and earned a degree in Business Agriculture.
Alongside his brothers, Tannie was 5th generation to farm cotton while also running the cotton gin on Frierson Plantation. All those who knew Tannie, knew he was passionate about his family and friends, LSU football, and the outdoors. He especially loved snow skiing, water skiing, fly fishing, quail hunting, and hosting the annual Dove Hunt on his family’s property. Tannie’s laugh was infectious to anyone around him. He was especially kind, considerate and generous and loved traveling the globe with his wife Jennifer. He was always thankful for the gift of faith in Jesus Christ and the peace and comfort found in the belief that in life and death we all belong to God.
The family would like to thank all the doctors, specialists, and staff that took such great care of him at Willis-Knighton Pierremont, Baylor Scott & White and Baylor Medical Center in Dallas, and St. Joseph’s/Carpenter House Hospice.
Tannie, Dad, Pap will forever be loved and missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Shreveport, The Providence House, Austin Theological Seminary, Baylor Research Hospital, or the charity of your choice.
