He met his beloved wife Sharon in junior high school and the high school sweethearts were married on September 20, 1969, when he returned from a tour in Vietnam. They had 52 wonderful married years together.

Carl began working for Market Wholesale Grocery as a teen. He worked his way up from sweeping the floors to assistant buyer. In 1974, Carl and Sharon moved their family to Redding, CA when Carl was promoted to head buyer at the Redding location of Market Wholesale. In 1986 he was promoted to Division Manager of the Redding location until the warehouse closed in 1993. In 1995 they returned to Santa Rosa where Carl commuted to the San Rafael corporate office and Tracy division to head up buying for the retail grocery ad group. In 2014 they returned to Redding to be closer to their grandchildren.
Carl was a lifelong LA Dodger fan and rooted for any team playing against the 49ers. He loved fly fishing, especially with his best friend Bob and getting tips from his son in law Jeff. He enjoyed the outdoors, sunsets, fishing the Sacramento River, family trips to Yosemite, and taking annual trips to the Klamath. Carl liked to spend time in the garage tying flies at his fly tying table and watching sports in his man cave. Thanks to Angela, the room is painted Dodger blue!
Carl was most proud of his long lasting marriage to Sharon, his children and grandchildren, never missing school functions, sporting events or a cheer competition. He was affectionately known as “Didi”, Croatian for grandfather.
