CFFNM News:
SANTA FE —The Cancer Foundation for New Mexico (CFFNM) is planning a great party for a great cause: the annual Sweetheart Auction, 5 p.m. Saturday, March 12.
This event, like so many in New Mexico, went virtual in 2021, but organizers plan to be back in person this year. Held at the Santa Fe Convention Center, this festive evening features a dinner buffet by Adobo Catering, an open wine and beer bar, and both silent and live auctions featuring more than 500 items.
Some of this year’s unique Live Auction items include dinners in private homes with Anne Hillerman and James McGrath Morris and another with author Doug Preston and Christine Preston, a party for 50 at Santa Fe’s Jet Center with music by Next 2 The Tracks and food by What The Truck, a private movie night at the Violet Crown Cinema, fly fishing at Soaring Eagle Lodge, a fabulous two-week African safari, a party for 10 at The Compound’s very cool bar, an opportunity to create your own hats at Percy’s Hat Shop, and a huge BBQ party by Whole Hog, with music by Michael Umphrey!
Artwork in the Live Auction includes a bronze relief by Allan Houser, an oil painting by Kiki Martinez, a ceramic sculpture by Rebecca Tobey, and bronze bobcat kittens by Star Liana York. And let’s not forget the Harley-Davidson® Touring Street Glide motorcycle!
Back this year is the Honor Wall, a three-dimensional mobile with pictures of honorees. Many are people who lost the battle with cancer; others are people who won this battle; and still others are those who helped along the way. The Honor Wall is a moving remembrance of all who have fought.
The “Dream Vacation Raffle” has a new twist this year. The winner of the raffle will be able to pick a dream trip for two on one of six trips or a $10,000 cash award. Tickets are $100 each, with discounts for multiple tickets. A maximum of 3,000 tickets will be sold. The drawing will take place at the Sweetheart Auction, but the winner does not need to be present to win.
Tickets are available at www.cffnm.org or by calling 505.955.7931, ext. 1.
The services of the Cancer Foundation for New Mexico are in more demand than ever before. The organization provides travel reimbursement, lodging, and food assistance to cancer patients in northern New Mexico who must travel to Santa Fe for their treatment. Without CFFNM’s help, these patients may opt not to receive treatment because they cannot bear the expenses of getting to Santa Fe. In the past fiscal year, the organization supported 30,000 patient visits. The Sweetheart Auction has typically raised over half of the Foundation’s annual operating expenses.
“Everyone loves the Sweetheart Auction because it is just a lot of fun,” CFFNM Board Chair Bunny Terry said, “but the evening is really about helping our neighbors in northern New Mexico get the treatment they need.”
A cancer survivor herself, Terry knows how important it is to support someone who has just heard the words “You have cancer”. She continues “This evening represents an opportunity to support each other, thanks to the donations from businesses and individuals, to the folks who bid on the items, and to the sponsors.”
The Co-Presenting Sponsors this year are The Albuquerque Santa Fe Toyota Dealers Association, ANCHORUM, CHRISTUS St. Vincent Regional Medical Center, New Mexico Cancer Care Associates, and X-Ray Associates of New Mexico.
“I am thrilled to be a part of this very special event,” adds Vince Baca, the new Executive Director of CFFNM. “You don’t have to look far to find someone who has been touched by cancer. I am just happy to be part of helping my neighbors.”
The Sweetheart Auction is 5 p.m. March 12 at the Santa Fe Convention Center.
Tickets are $100 and include a dinner/dessert buffet and an open wine and beer bar. To purchase event or raffle tickets, please visit www.cffnm.org or call 505.955.7931, ext. 1.
In 2022, the Cancer Foundation for New Mexico has adopted a Safe Event Policy, which will require a valid ID and proof of full COVID vaccination and booster, or a negative third party verified COVID test with name and date done within 24 hours of the event for each attendee and verified by security prior to entering the Convention Center. In addition to attendees, they will be requiring this proof from all staff, vendors and volunteers.
