November will be a busy month for the Buena Vista Public Library (BVPL), with multiple events almost every week.
Special Events
- Candle Making Workshop (Adults)
- Saturday, November 13 at 10:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m.
- Make your own soy candle in this informative 60-minute class. All materials will be provided including soy wax, cotton wicks, glass containers, and your choice of 5 scents. This instructor-led class will guide you to make a beautiful, bright candle for your home, or to give as a gift. This is a free workshop. Masks and registration are required.
- Native Americans of Colorado (Adults)

- From Mesa Verde to the high plains, learn the stories of the original inhabitants of Colorado. Active Minds, a provider of professional lectures, traces the civilizations of the Ute, Cheyenne, Arapaho, Pueblo, and other tribes in order to understand Colorado’s Native American history and legacy.

- Explore easy ways to infuse everyday activities with literacy and science so young children are ready to read and thrive when they enter school. Attend one, two, or all three sessions. Register online.
- Fly-Tying 101 (Adults)
- November 8-10, 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and November 12-13, 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m..
- Learn the art of fly tying through this intensive 5-class workshop. Take a deep dive into the skills and knowledge of fly fishing and learn to tie flies by hand. Those interested must be able to attend all five sessions. All materials provided. Registration required.
Adult Programs
- The Artist’s Palette: New Art Skills for Adults (Monthly)
- Wednesday, November 10 at 2:00 p.m..
- Learn facial proportions to map out a portrait in acrylic paint. Understand facial tones and color mixing. Make a canvas painting from a photograph. Registration is required.
- Qigong Class (Monthly)
- Monday, November 1 at 5:00 p.m..
- Eight Pieces of Brocade Qigong (pronounced: chee gong) involves coordinated, slow-flowing movement, deep breathing, and a meditative state of mind. Each monthly class will introduce new exercises aimed at increasing flexibility and energy, promoting mental clarity, and improving blood flow.

- Make and Take
- Tuesday, November 2, 3:45 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.. (Recommended for Kindergarten to 2nd grade) and Tuesday, November 9, 3:45 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.. (Recommended for 3rd-5th grade)
- This drop-in, activity space is designed to engage kids’ creative minds. Each month a different STEAM-based project challenges young makers. If kids are unable to attend the session, kits can be picked up (while supplies last) and taken home to complete.
All programs will be hosted at the library unless otherwise noted. The library will be closed on November 11 for Veterans Day and November 25 and 26 for Thanksgiving. More information about all events can be found on the BVPL website.
