Everything’s bigger in Texas, and that includes fishing.
The Lone Star State recently ranked No. 5 out of all 50 U.S. states to go fishing in, based on a new report by landscaping services website Lawn Love.
To mark National Hunting and Fishing Day in late September, the website ranked this year’s best and worst states for fishing by comparing the 50 states and the District of Columbia based on community interest, access to gear and bait shops, license affordability, and proximity to water sources.
Texas was included near the top mainly due to its passionate fishing community, the study said. Texas also has the largest number of fishing contests, derbies and tournaments in the whole country.
“The nation’s largest states are brimming with fishing spots,” analysts wrote. “Across the state, Texas keeps Community Fishing Lakes stocked with fish so anglers don’t have to travel far for a decent catch.”
Other states included at the top for best state to go fishing in included Florida at No. 1, followed by Alaska, Montana and Minnesota.
In other categories, the Lone Star State ranked fourth for its number of fishing charters and guides.
The study also included Mesquite, Texas as a destination fishing hobbyists need to check out, citing the city’s Texas Fly Fishing and Brew Festival as a must-see event that brings together experts, enthusiasts and especially eaters.
